The First Step Preschool policy regarding inclement weather is to follow BOTH School District 20 (D-20) AND School District 49 (D-49) for any snow closures or 2 hour delays. If D-20 OR D-49 has cancelled or delayed start time, we will be CLOSED. If D-20 or D-49 schools are sending children home early because of accumulating snow, the Director will call and send emails out notifying parents on our decision, if we close early. Decisions on closures or delays are broadcast by 6:00 am and early release decisions are made by 10:00 am by D-20 or D-49.
It is necessary for parents to listen to the radio or television on snowy mornings and check emails. You should also see notifications on the KKTV 11 weather ticker.
Should excessively hot or cold weather occur during the school day, planned indoor activities will replace outdoor time. It is the parent’s/guardian’s responsibility to ensure that their child has sunscreen lotion for up to 8 hours before coming to school. Children are not allowed to bring sunscreen lotion to school. Please remember to always send coats, hats, snow boots and mittens for cold weather.
If you expect to arrive after classes start or will be absent, please call us at (719) 495-0146. Please note that we adhere to all state and local policies regarding illness.
